God, Guns, and Hypocrisy: How the Right Is Forcing Their Lifestyle on Our Kids
By The Mayor of Funkytown — Political Writer, Resistance Organizer, and Professional Hypocrisy Spotter
You’ve heard this one before, right?
“Don’t force your lifestyle on my kids!”
It’s practically the MAGA pledge of allegiance at this point. They shout it at school board meetings, on cable news panels, and across Facebook posts that read like chain letters your grandma used to send. And every single time, I want to grab a megaphone and shout back: “Buddy, you’re the one doing the forcing.”
Because let’s be real — it’s not about protecting kids. It’s about controlling them. Their god, their guns, their 6th-grade-level opinions. That’s the curriculum they want running every classroom in America.
📚 The Manufactured Outrage Machine
Let’s start with the book bans. You’ve seen it. Suddenly, every other week there’s a headline about some school library being gutted because a group like Moms for Liberty decided that reading is dangerous.
And it’s not just pornographic material they’re going after — though that’s how they like to frame it. We’re talking about Maus (a Holocaust graphic novel), The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe. Books that deal with history, identity, and survival. Gone.
I was talking to a teacher friend in Florida who told me:
“We were told to cover our classroom shelves with paper until every book was individually reviewed by the district. Kids walked in and saw a wall of brown paper. Imagine being told the very place you’re supposed to learn is off-limits. That’s not education — that’s erasure.”
And here’s the kicker: these bans aren’t organic. They’re orchestrated. Well-funded groups hand parents a ready-made outrage script, and suddenly local school boards are swamped with complaints from people who haven’t cracked open the first page of the book they’re demanding to ban.
That’s not parental rights. That’s political theater at the expense of kids.
✝️ God in Every Classroom
Now let’s talk about the religion angle.
I’ll say it plainly: freedom of religion doesn’t mean forcing every classroom to look like a Sunday school. But that’s the game plan.
Texas lawmakers just passed a bill requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in classrooms. Florida is pushing “student-led prayer,” which is code for “we’ll make prayer so normal that opting out brands your kid as the outsider.”
Here’s the hypocrisy:
“If you don’t want drag queens in schools, fine. But I don’t want your preacher in there either. Why is your lifestyle the only one that gets protection?”
— A Jewish parent at a Tennessee school board meeting
And that’s it, right there. The same people screaming about freedom are the ones working hardest to erase it.
🔫 Guns Over Books
This one cuts deep.
Our kids are more likely to die from gun violence than anything else. That’s not me being dramatic — that’s the CDC. Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children and teens in America.
And yet, what’s the GOP solution? Not fewer guns. Not safer laws. Nope. Their answer is to arm teachers and make bulletproof backpacks a school supply.
“I’m a teacher, not a soldier. I didn’t sign up to carry a weapon into my classroom. I signed up to teach kids how to read, write, and think for themselves.”
— High school teacher in Ohio, quoted in The Columbus Dispatch
Think about the absurdity here: They’ll ban To Kill a Mockingbird because it talks about racism, but they’ll hand a math teacher a Glock and call it “school safety.” They’ll strip rainbow stickers off classroom walls, but shrug when kids practice hiding in closets during active shooter drills.
That’s not protecting children. That’s sacrificing them to the gun lobby.
🤡 Hypocrisy, Front and Center
Here’s the part that makes me shake my head: they keep screaming about “indoctrination.” But they’re the ones doing it.
They want to erase LGBTQ identities from textbooks, downplay slavery, glorify guns, and push mandatory prayer. That’s not neutrality. That’s a political and religious agenda being shoved into every kid’s backpack.
And the reason is obvious: the moment kids learn to think critically, the whole charade collapses.
“They don’t want critical thinkers. They want compliant followers.”
— Education activist, speaking at a New Jersey rally
And maybe that’s why they’re so dead set on keeping classrooms stuck at a 6th-grade reading level. A population that can’t analyze, question, or challenge authority is a population that votes the way they’re told.
✊ The Real Threat
The real threat to kids isn’t drag queens or diverse books. It’s the people who would rather see children praying under the Ten Commandments poster while ducking bullets than actually learning to think for themselves.
And here’s where we come in. If we don’t resist — loudly, consistently, unapologetically — they win by default.
So here’s the call:
Show up at your local school board meetings. Even if you don’t have kids in the district.
Support teachers — they’re under siege and burning out fast.
Vote against extremists who want to turn classrooms into pulpits and firing ranges.
Because if we don’t? The classrooms of tomorrow will look less like places of learning and more like indoctrination centers with an armed guard at the door.
So, the next time someone yells, “Don’t force your lifestyle on my kids!” just remind them:
They’re the ones forcing god, guns, and fear onto every child in America.
And we’re not letting them get away with it.
