Just Following Orders”: ICE Director Channels History’s Worst Excuse — And Funkytown Ain’t Having It
By: The Mayor of Funkytown — Patron Saint of Raised Fists, Velvet Ropes, and Calling Bullshit When Bullshit Shows Up Wearing a Diaper
It’s the oldest excuse in the war crimes playbook:
"I was just following orders."
We’ve heard it before. We heard it in Nuremberg. We heard it from the cops clubbing protestors. We heard it from the “good Germans” and the “neutral Swiss.” And now, in 2025, we’re hearing it from ICE Director Patrick J. Lechleitner, a man who apparently mistook “Homeland Security” for “Authoritarian History Reenactment Camp.”
At a press conference that should’ve come with a trigger warning for moral collapse, Lechleitner shrugged off concerns about ongoing deportation flights to El Salvador — flights that are currently violating a federal court order — with the casual nihilism of a man who lost his soul to a timesheet. “We’re just following orders,” he said.
Motherfucker, what orders? Because they sure as hell didn’t come from the judiciary, where the rule of law still technically exists. Let’s break it down.
🧨 The Court Order ICE Is Ignoring
In April 2024, U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta issued a binding ruling barring the deportation of asylum seekers to El Salvador, citing the credible risk of torture, gang violence, and political retribution for many of the individuals targeted by ICE.
Judge Mehta’s injunction wasn’t vague. It wasn’t unclear. It said — in plain, lawful, constitutional English — that removing people to El Salvador while their asylum claims are pending violates due process and federal protections against refoulement (that’s the fancy legal term for yeeting someone into a death trap).
And what did Lechleitner’s ICE do?
Fired up the planes anyway. Secret deportation flights, conducted under the radar, sometimes without informing lawyers or even family members. This wasn’t just defiance. This was a rogue agency giving the Constitution the finger from 30,000 feet.
And when the press asked why?
Lechleitner, smug in his seat of unaccountability, said the words that should make every American reach for a torch and pitchfork:
“We’re just following orders.”
📉 Bureaucratic Cowardice in a Badge
Let’s be absolutely clear: “just following orders” is not a defense. It’s a confession.
It’s the anthem of every bootlicking bureaucrat who chose comfort over conscience. It’s the rallying cry of every coward who lets atrocities pass because challenging the machine was inconvenient.
And when it comes out of the mouth of a man with federal law enforcement power, deportation authority, and a multi-billion-dollar budget, it’s not just offensive — it’s fucking terrifying.
You want to know what following orders looks like in ICE?
It looks like detaining children in adult facilities.
It looks like ripping parents from their homes at 5 a.m.
It looks like shuttling human beings across international borders in the dead of night, ignoring judges, lawyers, and basic decency.
And now it looks like openly violating a federal injunction while shrugging about it like you’re just some mid-level DMV clerk.
⚖️ The Gavel Is Coming
And here’s the twist, baby: this isn’t just a moral disaster — it’s a legal one too.
Judge Mehta isn’t just watching. He’s preparing to hold ICE, and potentially Lechleitner himself, in contempt. That means subpoenas. That means court dates. That means Patrick J. Lechleitner might soon be testifying not from behind a podium, but in front of a pissed-off federal judge who’s had enough of executive agencies treating judicial orders like toilet paper.
And if Mehta follows through?
Civil contempt.
Criminal contempt.
Maybe even personal liability if it can be shown that Lechleitner authorized violations knowingly, which, thanks to that quote, is now a lot easier to argue.
This ain’t just political theatre anymore. It’s a constitutional crisis meets courtroom showdown — and Lechleitner just delivered his opening statement straight into the flames.
💥 The Mayor’s Message
So here’s what I have to say — not just to Lechleitner, but to every smug bureaucrat hiding behind a memo while people are getting disappeared by ICE:
You do not get to wash your hands of cruelty just because someone higher up told you to do it.
You don’t get to claim “duty” while ignoring the law.
And you sure as hell don’t get to resurrect the same excuse literal Nazis used and expect us to clap politely.
This isn’t about policy disagreements. This is about whether or not government officials get to break the law, violate court orders, and traumatize human beings while pretending it’s just another day at the office.
Spoiler alert: They don’t.
You want to “follow orders,” Lechleitner?
Here’s one from the Mayor of Funkytown:
Resign. Now.
And while you’re at it?
Take every ICE goon who nodded along with you and walk your sorry asses out the door.
Because Funkytown isn’t buying the bullshit anymore. And neither is Judge Mehta.
If you dig the Mayor’s groove, subscribe and share. Funkytown needs more citizens who give a damn.
