𧚠This Week In Fascism
From criminalizing speech and banning flags to dismantling comedy, this weekâs fascist flood was as relentless as ever. Here's your five-alarm breakdown.

đ„ DOJ Fires US Attorney After New Jersey Picks Her Over Alina Habba
The Department of Justice abruptly fired U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, Leigh Skipper, just days after state leaders chose to retain her instead of Trump favorite and former personal attorney Alina Habba. The move appears to be direct retaliation from Trumpâs DOJ, which had lobbied heavily for Habba despite her lack of prosecutorial experience.
âThe optics couldnât be worseâfire a career prosecutor because the state didnât bend to the Presidentâs will? Thatâs not justice, thatâs a mob shakedown.â
â Former DOJ official speaking anonymously to ABC News
Why This Is Important:
This isnât just vindictiveâitâs authoritarian. Trump is trying to stack the entire federal judiciary with loyalists, and when he doesnât get his way, he pulls the trigger. Prosecutorial independence is foundational to democracy. Erasing it means justice only applies to the presidentâs enemies.
đ„ Misinformation Sparks Anti-Immigrant Riots Across U.S. Cities
Fueled by viral disinformation, mobs in multiple states attacked migrant shelters and clashed with police this week. In Nashville, far-right militants torched a nonprofit center housing unaccompanied minors. In Colorado Springs, rioters surrounded a migrant familyâs home after a fabricated post falsely accused them of âorgan harvesting.â
âPeople are acting on things they saw in Telegram groups or memes on X. This isnât grassroots outrageâitâs weaponized fiction.â
â Community organizer in Nashville
Why This Is Important:
This is stochastic terrorism in action. And Trumpâs media echo chamber knows exactly what itâs doing. Theyâre using lies to incite violence, then using that violence to justify even harsher anti-immigrant policies. Itâs a feedback loop of fascism.
đ„ Trump World Declares War on Comedy
Following the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, new pressure is mounting on other comedians and late-night hosts. Fox News aired an exposĂ© on Hasan Minhaj's political satire, and Trump aides are reportedly tracking âsubversiveâ entertainers. At least two comedy clubs in red states were visited by local officials questioning them about "inappropriate political material."
âWeâre seeing elected officials treat punchlines like propagandaâand comedy clubs like insurgent cells.â
â First Amendment attorney Rachel Lyons
Why This Is Important:
Authoritarians always come for the comedians. Humor exposes hypocrisy and breaks propaganda spells. Thatâs why fascists fear it. The crackdown on satire isnât about jokesâitâs about silencing dissent.
đ„ House Republicans Pass Bill Targeting âWokeâ Smithsonian Programs
The House passed a bill slashing funding for the Smithsonian Institution over what Republicans called âexcessive focus on race, gender, and social justice.â The bill bans exhibitions on systemic racism and LGBTQ history, and orders the institution to submit âideologically neutralâ content guidelines to a new oversight board.
âItâs cultural genocide with a legislative face. They want history to reflect their worldviewâperiod.â
â Curator at the Smithsonian, speaking anonymously
Why This Is Important:
This isnât budget politicsâitâs historical erasure. When the government dictates what museums can teach, youâre living in a regime, not a republic. Censorship of this kind is textbook fascism.
đ„ Montana Bans âPolitical Flagsâ on Government Property, Including Pride Flag
Montana passed a law banning all âpoliticalâ flags from state buildings, a term Republicans admit includes LGBTQ+ Pride flags but not American, state, or âDonât Tread On Meâ flags. Violations can result in the termination of public employees who display or authorize any prohibited flag.
âThis is a targeted, cowardly attack dressed up as neutrality. Theyâre outlawing visibility, plain and simple.â
â Montana ACLU
Why This Is Important:
Stripping symbols of marginalized groups from public life is part of the authoritarian playbook. This isnât about âpolitics,â itâs about purging queer identity from public view. What comes after erasure? Criminalization.
đ§ Final Thought
Every one of these stories connects to the same goal: total control over truth, identity, and power. Fascism doesnât just arrive waving a flagâit shows up as bureaucratic overreach, cultural censorship, and coordinated disinformation. Thatâs what weâre living through.
Stay alert. Stay loud. And for the love of whatâs leftâstay fighting.
