Off Script with Tom Hicks
Independent journalism. No talking points.
Most news tells you what happened. Off Script is interested in what happened after you get past the headline, the spin, and the people already telling you what you’re supposed to think about it.
Every edition starts with the evidence: court filings, statutes, government records, original reporting, credible news sources, and the actual words people used. Then we follow the story wherever the facts take it.
Sometimes that means the conventional wisdom is right. Sometimes everybody is losing their damn minds over something that doesn’t mean nearly as much as they’re pretending it does. And sometimes the part getting the least attention turns out to be the part that matters most.
That’s where Off Script lives.
What you’ll get
Off Script covers politics, government, media, public institutions, courts, culture, and the occasional story that makes you wonder whether everybody involved has collectively lost their grip.
The goal isn’t to give you another hot take. It’s to slow the story down long enough to figure out what we actually know, what we don’t know, and whether the narrative being repeated everywhere survives contact with the evidence.
Regular features include THE RECORD, where we separate the documented facts from the noise, and the Bullshit Detector, where claims, talking points, and convenient narratives get the treatment they deserve.
No party script
Off Script isn’t here to carry water for Democrats, Republicans, candidates, campaigns, cable networks, or anybody else.
If the evidence supports them, we’ll say so.
If it doesn’t, we’ll say that too.
The loyalty is to the record.

One more thing
Off Script is written by Tom Hicks, a writer who has spent enough time around politics, law, media, and human behavior to be deeply suspicious whenever everybody suddenly agrees on exactly what a story means.
If you’re tired of being handed the conclusion before you’ve been shown the evidence, you’re in the right place.
Follow the evidence. Skip the talking points.
